However, general liability does not protect against alleged wrongful acts or omissions, including breach of duty, which do not result in bodily injury.

Directors and officers coverage protects your executives from potential lawsuits resulting from key decisions or management practices-lawsuits that may target their personal assets.

Pollution / Environmental Liability

Environmental coverage generally falls into two categories. Errors and omissions coverage, also known as professional liability, protects a professional who mistakenly designs a facility that causes pollution in some way. Pollution incident coverage protects professionals on the job in case they cause a pollution incident by perhaps backing into a sewage pipe.

Policies for environmental consultants can feature broad coverage specifically tailored to the specific needs of a professional in the environmental field. Coverage may include pollution incident and asbestos coverage as well as retroactive coverage for eligible firms.

Errors and Omissions Insurance

Firms and individuals rendering professional services are constantly at risk of being charged with having committed a material error or omission (i.e., a mistake) by their clients. Even though the charges are frequently overblown or just plain false, there is a significant expense in defending against these claims.

Insurance covering such defense costs along with potential adverse judgments is a solution to insulate you from a career threatening catastrophe. Aside from the insurance component itself, you will have immediate access to experienced attorneys who will provide you with immediate help when charged with a negligent act. This alone often eliminates or mitigates a claim before it gets out of control.

While many professionals are required by law to have some level of professional liability (E&O) coverage, it just makes sense to protect your livelihood even if you’re not being forced to do so.
